Strange bolt head markings

Post by dachoppa »

Been working all day on the dozer, re-assembling the fenders , hydraulic lines, and doing a little wiring.

Cleaned up a number of bolts by wire wheel cleaning off the layers of paint and crud.

Most of the bolts are plain head, no markings....BUT... some of the bolts have a few markings, namely, a big "C" or a "C" with a "H"inside it.

One even has an underlined "R"..or something... take a look.

see this photo.

I presume that the "C" may be for Clark?

Anyone else see these markings on any of their bolt heads?

I find it intriguing, as such, that the Jeep guys have their "F" script bolts, and the Dodge trucks had "DB" headed bolts (Dodge Brothers) and even my Chevy G506 when I restored it, I also noted specific to that vehicle head markings. (Cant remeber now what Chevy had)

anyway, its entirely possibly then that Clark had their own markings perhaps?

A senior Clark engineer recognized the bolt head with the C & H as representing the Cleveland Hardware company. The bolt heads with the C and the R also probably identify hardware suppliers.
