Received my used Farmall Pre Cleaner today. Here are some images. The inside dimension of the air inlet is 2". The inside diameter of the debris jar is 3 3/8". It is about 8 5/8" long, 5 3/4" wide at the widest point and 4 1/2" tall.

Dave,
Please post some with measurements. That way I can compare the specs. THis is from a Farmall H. I think the correct jar is 3 1/4" or 3 3/8". It should say Ball Special on it.

see below link:

I took a number of shots of mine for you.

Unless mine is NOT a stock pre-cleaner, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head in finding this farmall as a replacement.

It looks nearly identical in construction, save for the longer feed pipe and the screw clamp to secure the glass jar.

measurments on mine are as follows:
The inside dimension of the air inlet is 2". The inside diameter of the debris jar is 3 1/2" to maybe 3 5/8".

It is about 8 1/2" " long and 6" wide at the widest point and 3 1/2" tall.

Now, these measurments are from the "lip" formed area, not the actual body as you MAY have taken.

to me, it appears as if you found a nealry identical substitute, if not the exact match in many ways.. after all, lets face it, Clark MUST have used common parts where they could have, and Farmall was around making parts then. I

let me know if I can help further

Dave,
Thanks for posting those photos and the dimensions. I think you are right, they did use some common parts. I think the head is correct, and the connection and jar fitting is different. I suspect the military wanted the thing to be secure with a screw clamp instead of screwing it into the cup. I've been looking for a smaller clamp ring with no luck. Most are much larger to hold the oil cup. The longer pipe should be easy to make. it won't be noticable except to the discriminating eye. If I do my mods correctly that will not even be a problem. I may have to make a jar clamp.

Decided to put a few more hours into the project. I assembled the parts for the air cleaner and tapped the case for the oil vent line. The Moline Air Cleaner that I have is somewhat smaller in diameter and when translated into circumference it makes quite a difference on the original air cleaner mounting brackets...so I went back to the Donaldson brackets, re-drilled the mounting holes and it works. You can see the mounting holes for the original right-sized bracket. If I find an original cleaner, the change will be easy. I still have some priming and finishing to do, I have to build one more mounting cross bar as my Clark only came with one. That should be simple, just a straight piece of steel with 6 holes drilled in it. Should be able to find a stock piece to work.

Hi Oz

All looking very good. Any chance of posting a quick drawing of the mounting cross bar, as mine is missing those!!!

Cheers

Paul,
I'll do so this afternoon. I have to make one also. How is your progress coming?

I measured the support bar that connects the two sand boxes and allows the Air Cleaner Bracket to be fastened. Here is the drawing. The metric dimensions for holes did not come to an exact mm dimension so I rounded to the nearest size bolt. Please confirm the inch to mm conversion I used 25.4 mm = 1 inch.
