What oil or Hydraulic Fluid is used?

NO WHERE, no where in any of my manuals does it actually state the type and description of the specified hydraulic fluid, or oil, to be used in the Clarks Ca-1 system.

Anyone have any information or specifications in any of your manuals? I thought it would be under the "capacities" section but no.

I even have an entire section in the manual I own thats devoted to the assembly, repair and putting into service the hydraulic blade and system for this tractor.

But it has absolutley no reference to the correct fluid, or oil to use. Its probably pretty basic, who knows. probalby only one type of hydraulic oil, I just aint that versed in these things... But after seeing that the gear box required "mineral oil" I thought it wouldnt hurt to make sure.

Hi Oz

This scanned page from the hydraulic manual TM5-1270 may help!!

SAE30 thats certainly what I topped my system up with, maybe there is a better modern oil but at least with SAE30 there is no chance of eating away original rubber seals.

Cheers

are you saying this is a standard "Engine" oil?

SAE 30 weight straight engine oil?

hummmm.

now that I see the "stuff" that came out, it dont really look like engine oil, but then again, it dont look "amber" in color like hydro oil either.

Do any of you think that IF there was say, Hry oil in there, and I replaced with ,say, 30 weight engine oil? (if thats what I am reading here) would it hurt anything to mix them?

Dave

talked to the previuos owner.

he too said that it should be 30 weight engine oil.. He also mentioned that engine oil was the common fluid to use in hydraulics during that time.

New one on me.. Not that OI am any expert here, in fact, very far from it.. Just seems that engine oil, well, its for engines, not hydraulics!

So, I guess that question is answerd: Ill be replacing with straight 30 weight engine oil and be done with it

The oil used in the BABX Hydraulic Bulldozer is Summer SAE-30 ( OE-30 ) and Winter SAE-10 ( OE-10 ) This info can be found on page 12 Section 1 Operator's Instruction manual for LaPlant-Choate Bulldozer on " CLARKAIR " Tractors. This comes a little late as I just joined this site. awleblanc
