STARTER DATA

Cleaning the starter.

Again, IF this unit is a factory stock item, this info might help someone needing to find a starter.

On the "rim" of the starter casting is written:

PS224

thats it.

I think I can vaguely see some other writing on the shell, but Ill need better light to look at it. Its getting dark in the garage.. THe bench light casts more shadows then natural lighting allows.

Ill add to what I find when /if I see any other readable nomenclature

Looks like you have an original. Mine has the data plate on it and the PS224. Manual states; MAJ 4604 Auto-Lite. Here is what mine looks like:

Got my starter back today. I need to redo the finish, but the guts are fine and checked out at the store on 6 V. I will have to wait until Friday to try it in the Clark.

Much nicer looking that when I took it off the engine. There was 65 years worth of crud, carbon and fibers in the starter. This is what it looks like following the refurbishment:
